United Way Works to Support EDUCATION
EDUCATION is the cornerstone of individual and community success. It does not just affect children and youth, but our entire community. Improving an individual's EDUCATION experience is possible, but only when communities and public, private and nonprofit sectors work together. The following is our Community Impact Plan for EDUCATION.
VISION: Encouraging a community that enhances education and supports family engagement from birth through high school.
1. BARRIER: There is a lack of community assistance necessary to help parents and/or caregivers create stable, child-focused households.
a. COMMUNITY LEVEL OUTCOME: There is an increase in parent and/or caregiver involvement in their child’s education.
I. INDICATOR: Increase in parental/caregiver involvement in school activities and afterschool academic related activities.
II. INDICATOR: Increase in parents/caregivers knowledge of age-appropriate child development.
b. COMMUNITY LEVEL OUTCOME: There will be increased family commitment that will provide stability in the household.
I. INDICATOR: Parents/caregivers improve parenting skills
II. INDICATOR: Parents/caregivers increase consistent involvement in children’s activities.
2. BARRIER: There is limited community participation in programs that expand a child’s education and personal growth.
a. COMMUNITY LEVEL OUTCOME: Children of all ages attend high quality, affordable early care and supplemental education (birth-12th grade) programs.
I. INDICATOR: Children are ready for kindergarten
II. INDICATOR: Children are reading at the appropriate level by the end of 3rd grade
III. INDICATOR: Children are transitioning successfully from middle school to high school
b. COMMUNITY LEVEL OUTCOME: There is an increase in programs encouraging positive character development for children of all ages.
I. INDICATOR: More community members serve as long-term mentors, tutors or advocates
II. INDICATOR: Youth improve motivation to succeed
III. INDICATOR: Youth improve their ability to interact appropriately with others
